UB Arts, Sciences and Education Department Inducts Class of 2026 Interns

Celebrating another academic milestone, the University of Bohol College of Arts, Sciences and Education (CASE) formally inducted student-interns from the AB Political Science and BS Psychology programs during an Internship Induction Ceremony held on January 30, 2026, at the University gymnasium. During the ceremony, Dr. Janice Aurora T. Namoc, Dean of CASE, officially recognized the student interns of the Class of 2026 who are set to undergo the internship program prior to their graduation. With the theme “From Theory to Praxis: Translating Academic Insight into Societal Impact,” the ceremony marked the interns’ transition from learning to living—from mastering concepts in textbooks to applying them in real-world settings where people, policies, and communities are shaped and transformed. Ms. Danna Merisa V. Ebra, Supervising Probation and Parole Officer of the Province of Bohol and a UB alumna, graced the induction ceremony as Guest of Honor. In her address, the lady probation officer emphasized that theories only gain meaning when they encounter real human lives, stressing that internship is not merely an academic requirement but a crucial turning point. SPPO Ebra called on the Psychology and Political Science interns to build competence, sharpen their observational skills, uphold responsibility, and never compromise ethical standards. Equally inspiring was the presence of University President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III, who shared words of wisdom with the student interns, reminding them that knowledge finds its highest value when it serves the public good. Dr. Tirol advised the young UBians that as they enter communities, offices, and institutions, they are not merely observers but emerging practitioners whose insights, integrity, and actions can help bring about meaningful societal change. He also reminded faculty members and students of the words of Marian Wright Edelman, who said that education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving one’s community and the world better than one found it. SUSPENSION OF CLASSES DUE TO TROPICAL CYCLONE BASYANG

University Officials Attend CHED Regional Stakeholders’ Engagement in Region VII

The Vice President for Academic Affairs, Atty. Marlumina B. Teh, and the Academic Support Services Officer, Dr. Marilou V. Fudalan, represented the institution at the “Kumustahan at Konsultasyon: A CHED Regional Stakeholders’ Engagement on the A.C.H.I.E.V.E. 2030 Agenda and Scholarship Access Toward Inclusive and Transformative Higher Education,” attended by leaders of private higher education institutions in Region VII last January 29, 2026. Organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) under the strong leadership of Regional Director Dr. Filomena T. Dayagbil, the engagement aimed to orient stakeholders on CHED’s priorities, particularly the A.C.H.I.E.V.E. 2030 Agenda; provide a venue to address institutional concerns regarding scholarship implementation; and strengthen collaboration toward responsive and inclusive higher education. Agenda are Advanced and Accessible Lifelong Learning: Expanding flexible and inclusive learning opportunities, Centralized One-Nation Human Capital Development: Aligning education with industry needs and national goals, Harmonized SDG-Based Research and Innovation: Supporting research aligned with Sustainable Development Goals, Integrated Real-Time Data Collection and Analytics: Using data for evidence-based policy and planning, Expanded and Impact-Driven Internationalization Strategies: Strengthening global partnerships and academic mobility, Vitalized Policies, Internal Systems, and Governance: Improving institutional efficiency and Effective and Efficient Public Service: Enhancing, overall higher education management.  Open dialogue sessions enabled participants to clarify issues related to scholarship access, compliance, and program implementation, and the activity concluded with a pledge to support and advance CHED’s agenda and strategic directions. Insights gained from the engagement will be used to strengthen academic programs, enhance institutional compliance with CHED policies, and improve access to scholarship opportunities for deserving students, thereby affirming its role as a proactive partner in advancing inclusive, equitable, and transformative higher education in Region VII. UB President Welcomes Renowned Musician and Alumnus Luke Mejares

University of Bohol President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III welcomed renowned musician and alumnus Michael Luke Mejares during a courtesy visit at the President’s Office on January 28, 2026. Mejares, popularly known as Luke Mejares in the music industry, is a celebrated singer and composer and a former member of the renowned band – South Border. He and Dr. Tirol share a longstanding connection, having been classmates at the University of Bohol from pre-school through high school—an enduring bond that reflects the university’s strong sense of community and tradition. CHEDRO 7 Teacher Education Supervisor II Guests UB Education’s 45th Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony

Dr. Bernard S. Pantonilla, Teacher Education Supervisor II of the Commission on Higher Education Region VII (CHEDRO VII), served as the guest speaker during the 45th Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony of the University of Bohol Education Department held on January 20, 2025, at the university gymnasium. During the ceremony, a total of 83 teacher interns were formally recognized as candidates for internship by Dr. Janice Aurora T. Namoc, Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE). The interns are enrolled in the Bachelor of Elementary Education, Special Needs Education, Culture and Arts Education, Physical Education, and Secondary Education programs, with majors in English, Filipino, Mathematics, and Social Studies. They were formally presented for the Teaching Internship Program by Dr. Jelinda R. Fortich, Program Chairperson for Elementary Education, and Mr. Vidal L. Platino Jr., Program Chairperson, Secondary Education. Meanwhile, Dr. Charito B. Sapong, Department Chairperson of Arts and Sciences, emphasized the significance of the pins, which was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the torch led by UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III. The teacher interns, together with their parents, then took part in the actual pinning and candle lighting ceremony. Anchored on the theme “Lighting the Path to Lifelong Learning,” University President Tirol, in his inspirational message, reminded the student interns that as future educators, the learning they pursue beyond the university will shape their classrooms, their students, their values, and ultimately, their legacy. He emphasized that in a rapidly changing world, teachers who thrive are those who continuously seek knowledge, reflect on their practice, and strive for improvement. “Your teachers and mentors light your path today so that tomorrow, you may light the way for others—your future students, your communities, your workplaces, and even those you may never meet,” he added. UB Broadens Educational and Service Horizons, Assumes Stewardship of the Bohol South Beach Hotel

In line with its commitment to broadening educational opportunities and strengthening institutional service capabilities, the University of Bohol (UB) formally assumed stewardship of the Bohol South Beach Hotel during a turnover and dedication ceremony held on December 30, 2025, at the seaside property in Purok 4, Sitio Daurong, Panglao, Bohol. Positioned as part of UB’s strategic diversification efforts, the Bohol South Beach Hotel is now managed and operated by the University Hotel Service Corporation, a subsidiary of the University of Bohol. The facility is envisioned to function as an expanded learning environment that supports the university’s Hospitality Management and Tourism Management programs — both currently under Level II PAASCU accreditation — by bridging academic preparation with authentic industry practice. Through this development, UB aims to enhance curricular implementation by providing students with direct industry exposure, hands-on professional training, and immersive experiential learning opportunities. Such initiatives are integral to the university’s mission of nurturing academically prepared, industry-responsive, and globally competitive graduates in the hospitality and tourism sectors. The formal turnover of the property was jointly executed by UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III and former proprietor Ms. Mercedes M. Kennedy of Bohol South Beach Hotel. UBian Athlete Clinches Bronze in 33rd SEA Games

Julius Philip Bon, a sophomore student of the University of Bohol College of Criminal Justice (CCJ), clinched a bronze medal in the Petanque Mixed Triple Event during the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, held on December 9–10, 2025, in Ayutthaya, Thailand. Petanque (pronounced peh-TONK), is a precision target sport in which players throw metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden target ball called the cochonnet or jack, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground. Although not an Olympic sport, petanque is featured in major international competitions such as The World Games and the Southeast Asian Games, highlighting its growing global recognition. Mr. Asterio Pocot, University of Bohol Athletic Affairs Coordinator, disclosed that Bon is a varsity petanque player who earned a spot on the Philippine Petanque Team after successfully qualifying in a national tryout held in Manila. UB CCJ Takes Research to the Asian Criminology Conference 2025 in Australia

Institutionalizing  the culture of research within the UB community, the University of Bohol College of Criminal Justice (CCJ) elevated its scholarly engagement through its participation in the 16th Annual Conference of the Asian Criminological Society, held at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia, on December 3–5, 2025. With the theme “Translational and Transnational Criminology,” the international research forum focused on innovative scholarly ventures in law enforcement and criminal justice. It served as a significant academic platform for presenting research that bridges local community realities with broader regional and global criminological frameworks. Representing the University of Bohol College of Criminal Justice were Dr. Shirley Ochea-Molina, College Dean, together with student research presenters Sophia Antoinne L. Gantalao, a third-year student, and Paul Patrick O. Molina, a second-year student. Alongside other Filipino delegates, the UB CCJ team joined researchers, academics, professionals, and students from various Asian countries, with the Philippines emerging as the largest national contingent. The conference was also actively supported and participated in by officials of the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines (PCAP), underscoring the country’s strong presence in regional criminological discourse. As part of the conference’s transnational criminology exposure, participants visited the Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law and the Queensland Police Headquarters and Museum. A notable feature of the Queensland Courts is the extensive use of a jury system in criminal trials—an approach rarely practiced in the Philippine justice system. Also highlighted were the Supreme Court Library’s accessibility to self-represented litigants and the efficient trial scheduling systems displayed in the court lobby. The Court proudly upholds the maxim Audax et Fidelis—“Bold but Faithful.” Meanwhile, the Queensland Police Museum (QPM) offered an engaging learning experience through its 25 interactive displays featuring various policing themes. Through archival materials, exhibitions, and public programs, the QPM provided a compelling comparative perspective on policing practices, past and present. The remaining days of the conference remained highly productive, featuring insightful keynote addresses and parallel breakout sessions. These sessions explored major criminological research areas, including Digital and Cyber Crime; Drugs and Crime; Critical Criminology; Green Criminology; Global and Comparative Criminology; Gendered Violence; Policing and Crime Prevention; State and Political Crime; Theoretical Debates; Youth Justice; Gender and Sexuality; Justice Programs; Corrections; and Teaching in Criminology. This meaningful academic exposure opened valuable opportunities to further advance criminal justice education and research, while reaffirming the University of Bohol’s core values of scholarship, character, and service. UB’s “March for Truth” Calls for Good Governance

Amid the ongoing political and economic challenges confronting the country, the University of Bohol took a historic stride in strengthening social awareness through its March for Truth held on December 10, 2025, at the Victoriano B. Tirol Jr. Sports Complex, Taloto District, Tagbilaran City. Grounded in the virtues of scholarship, character, and service, the institution aspires to remain a moral compass—steadfast in truth, justice, and ethical leadership. With good governance as the foundation of a responsive and effective institution, UB emphasized that transparency and accountability must remain at its core. UB executives, led by President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III, took turns presenting the academe’s perspectives on the current national situation. President Tirol urged government leaders to serve with integrity, transparency, and accountability. Equally compelling were the messages from student leaders and alumni, who shared their insights and encouraged the Boholano community to remain vigilant and actively engaged. Atty. Greg Austral, CPA, Dean of the College of Law, provided a scholarly  discussion on legal jurisprudence and the constitutional requirements in handling cases—particularly those involving corruption—before an individual can be convicted. He emphasized that the country already has sufficient laws to ensure accountability in government transactions. He reminded participants that, beyond peaceful rallies, no person can be convicted unless guilt is proven beyond reasonable doubt. Thus, he underscored the need for concrete evidence and the courage of witnesses with direct knowledge to voluntarily come forward and testify. Other resource persons included Atty. Marlumin B. Teh, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Ms. Ria Eva M. Sevilla, Vice President for Administration; Dr. Maricel A. Tirol, Vice President for Finance; and Ms. Marjorie Dumo from the College of Science and Education. Representing the students were Sophia Antoinne Lafuente Gantalao (SSG Student Leader), Lee Rafaela Noble (CSO Student Leader), Jonzie Vinas (SSG President), and Jerylouie Urs Iter (Alumni Representative). Interspersed between the speakers were intermission performances by Josh Camilotes, who sang Tatsulok, and Chad Greyson Flores, Mr. UB Personality 2025, who delivered an oral declamation. Following the program, participants, led by school administrators, took part in an actual march around the oval. UBohol Celebrates 55th Charter Day with Gratitude

Looking back with deep reverence and profound gratitude to the pioneers who laid its foundation, the University of Bohol commemorated its 55th Charter Day on December 11, 2025, at the University Main Campus. In a simple yet meaningful ceremony, administrators, faculty, staff, and students gathered at the campus quadrangle for a flag-raising and wreath-laying rite, followed by a brief commemorative program. To avoid further disruptions brought about by recent weather-related class cancellations, the University suspended classes only for the duration of the ceremony. In his Charter Day message, UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III honored the steadfast dedication of the institution’s early leaders, who selflessly shared their time, talents, and vision to realize the Boholano people’s aspiration for accessible and quality education. As the fifth president of the University, Dr. Tirol recalled the prophetic words of the late Philippine President Carlos P. Garcia, who once declared that the establishment of the University of Bohol marked a remarkable milestone in the region’s history. Dr. Tirol also emphasized that celebrating the University’s annual Charter Day is, above all, an act of thanksgiving to God. He reminded the UB community that the occasion serves as a constant call not to rest on past achievements but to strive for even greater heights—breathing life and vigor into the mission and vision of this beloved institution. On a lighter note befitting the holiday season, Dr. Tirol encouraged the UB community to remain hopeful and positive despite challenges. “Amid diverse opinions and beliefs, let us strive to build bridges, not walls,” he emphasized, reminding everyone that happiness remains within reach when unity and goodwill prevail. The Charter Day program also revisited the University’s rich history. In 1946, as the nation was rebuilding from the devastation of World War II, a group of visionary and civic-minded Boholano leaders founded Rafael Palma College, named after the distinguished scholar, Dr. Rafael Palma. On December 11, 1970, Atty. Victoriano D. Tirol, Sr. was installed as the first University President—a historic moment that marked the institution’s official transformation into the University of Bohol. UB Pres. Tirol Commends Nursing Topnotchers

In recognition of their exemplary achievements, UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III personally welcomed and commended Mikah H. Ofamin and Earlgen A. Bucog, who ranked 9th and 10th, respectively, in the November 2025 Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination (PNLE). Accompanied by Dean Myrna B. Bernaldez of the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS), the two topnotchers—who are also proud graduates of the UB Senior High School—paid a courtesy visit to the University President and the Vice President for Finance, Dr. Maricel A. Tirol, at the President’s Office on December 2, 2025. The University of Bohol achieved an overall passing rate of 93%, with a 96.15% passing rate for first-time takers—both surpassing the national passing rate of 90.04%. Notably, beginning in 2024, the UB Nursing Department partnered with the renowned TopRank Review Academy to further strengthen graduates’ readiness for the Nursing Licensure Examination. PSA Honors UBohol for Support to National Statistical Survey

In grateful recognition of the University of Bohol’s unwavering support and cooperation in the conduct of the 2025 Quarterly Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (QSPBI), the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) honored the institution during the QSBI   Regional Respondent’s Forum  held on November 10, 2025, in One Central Hotel and Suites, Cebu City, Cebu. The award highlights the University’s steadfast participation in PSA surveys and data collection initiatives, which have significantly contributed to the agency’s efforts in producing and disseminating reliable official statistics used to monitor and evaluate the country’s economic performance. As a learning institution, UB commits itself to supporting the government in providing timely and accurate economic indicators that guide policy formulation and decision-making, and promote evidence-based planning and governance grounded in transparency, accountability, and informed judgment. UB believes that through the consistent and up-to-date submission of quarterly reports to the PSA, it can help advance both economic development and good governance in the country. The efficient and timely submission of these reports also supports research-based interventions aimed at addressing the needs of both public and private stakeholders. The recognition was personally presented by Wilma A. Perante, Director II and Officer-in-Charge, Regional Director of PSA–RSSO 7, to the University of Bohol, representative  Ms. Marieson D. Israel. The University of Bohol encourages everyone to take all necessary precautions as early as now. Please read carefully and follow the detailed reminders below: 1. ESSENTIALS TO PREPARE BEFORE THE TYPHOONMake sure you and your household are ready. Prepare a Go-Bag (Emergency Kit) that contains the following: Water: At least 3 liters per person per day for at least 3 days. Food: Non-perishable goods (canned food, biscuits, dried fruits, etc.) good for 3 days. First Aid Kit: Include medicines for fever, headache, stomach pain, antiseptic, and bandages. Flashlight & Extra Batteries or a rechargeable emergency light. Power Banks – Fully charge all units before the storm hits. Important Documents sealed in waterproof plastic (ID, school ID, birth certificate, insurance, etc.). Extra Clothes, Blankets, and Towels in a waterproof bag. Face Masks, Alcohol, and Sanitary Kits. Whistle – For attracting attention during emergencies.   Keep your house surroundings clean and safe: Bring inside any outdoor items that can be blown away. Clear gutters and drains to prevent flooding. Make sure your pets are kept safe indoors.   2. Use of Google Classroom During Exigencies or Emergencies

Use of Google Classroom During Exigencies or Emergencies To: All Academic Deans, Subject Coordinators, Program Heads/Chairs, and Faculty Members To ensure teaching and learning continuity during exigencies or emergencies (e.g., natural calamities or other disruptions to face-to-face classes), the University has approved the use of Google Classroom for all tertiary-level programs, including the Graduate School and the College of Law (Canvass, Moodle, Hyflex). Google Classroom shall be used ONLY when onsite classes are temporarily suspended, for online synchronous or asynchronous sessions, as allowed under CHED Memorandum No. 04, Series of 2023. It is not a substitute for regular face-to-face classroom instruction. Academic Deans shall post Google Classroom codes on official College/Department FB pages and monitor online classes together with the HR Office. Faculty must include all officially enrolled students and keep learning materials and announcements accessible. Students are expected to check their University email and Google Classroom regularly for updates. For Basic Education, online learning shall use the official LMS during such circumstances. After the successful launch of Strands of Love in October 2024, the University of Bohol (UB), in partnership with the Alturas Group of Companies (AGC), once again made waves with another hair donation campaign held on October 3, 2025, at the Instructional Media Center (IMC), UB Main Campus.           The event drew overwhelming support, with 59 volunteers, predominantly students, contributing to the hair donation drive. The donated hair will be crafted into wigs for individuals undergoing cancer treatment, helping restore their confidence and sense of normalcy during a difficult journey. The University of Bohol continues its collaboration with Kythe Foundation, Incorporated—a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of hospitalized children battling cancer and other chronic illnesses. In her message, Dr. Maricel Tirol, UB Vice President for Finance, emphasized the noble cause of the movement and its impact on humanity. Drawing from her personal experience with her aunt and sister, Dr. Tirol highlighted the importance of individual support for cancer patients, noting that cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in the country, ranking third overall in the Philippines. She further underscored that it takes ten bundles of hairloom to create a single wig  – a meaningful, valuable, and life-changing, especially when turned into wigs for cancer patients. As a cancer-free advocate, Dr. Tirol commended the students for their voluntary support and urged them to sustain their commitment to the advocacy. Also in attendance were Ms. Ria Eva M. Sevilla, Vice President for Administration; Dr. Lemuel O. Belarmino, Dean of Student/Personnel Services; and Dr. Golda T. Olaivar, School Physician. The day’s program also featured a Cancer Awareness Symposium with Dr. Charmie Gail G. Torrefranca of the Department of General Surgery, Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC). Her discussion focused on raising awareness about cancer while promoting the values of selflessness and compassion. The second Strands of Love event was held alongside the university’s Guidance Day celebration, dubbed “PAG-AGAK”—a day devoted to promoting mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being within the campus community. UB Holds Pag-agak 2025 Wellness Symposium

In its commitment to fostering a healthier, more motivated, and resilient workforce, the University of Bohol (UB), through the Office of Student/Personnel Services, conducted a Wellness Symposium for employees and students on October 3, 2025, at the UB Instructional Research Center (IRC). Pag-agak 2025 – A Guidance Celebration emphasized not only individual well-being but also the promotion of holistic health, productivity, and workplace harmony for the benefit of the entire UB community. The one-day activity began with a Holy Mass and a formal program, highlighted by the introduction of Peer Facilitators, UB Likas, and various Campus Student Organizations. This was followed by trivia games, challenges, and the opening of themed booths, including: Stressed is Desserts – offering free sweet delicacies; Disconnect to Connect – encouraging offline bonding by communicating friends without mobile phones; Doodle Your Stress Away – a creative space to draw, doodle, or craft whenever feeling stressed, restless, or bored;  Mental Health Hub – providing resources and information on stress management, anxiety, mindfulness, and time management; Sleeping Booth – a cozy spot for a quick nap. Film Showing – classroom-based mini theaters showcasing five different films throughout the day;  Sing Your Stress Away – giving participants the chance to grab a microphone and sing their hearts out; Free Hugs – promoting calmness and relaxation by releasing oxytocin, also known as the “cuddle hormone”;  Aromatherapy Corner – a relaxing space to de-stress and immerse in soothing fragrances;  Express Your Gratitude – a gratitude wall where participants could share notes of appreciation for both big and small blessings; and  Brave Spirits – featuring a roulette of affirmations, challenges, and “spiritual food.” At 3:00 p.m., guest speaker Mr. John Velden Lim delivered an inspiring talk on “Do It Afraid” at the UB Gymnasium, attended by school administrators, teaching personnel, deans and principals, office heads, non-teaching staff, and students. The celebration also featured lively activities such as Zumba, praise and worship, and relaxing treats like free massages—creating a fun, engaging, and wellness-centered atmosphere for all participants. Advancing Test Quality and Learning Outcomes through Item Analysis Training: Key Highlights

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) successfully spearheaded the training of administrators and selected faculty on the quantitative and qualitative analysis of test items last September 18 -19, 2025. The training was facilitated by Dr. Mardy Verano, Executive Director of Edustudio Learning Review and Training Services, who shared expert insights, practical strategies, and evidence-based approaches in item analysis. Assessment plays a vital role in ensuring instructional quality and student success. Yet the effectiveness of any test relies not only on the accuracy of its content but also on the quality of its items. The seminar-workshop empowered participants to transform raw test data into actionable insights for continuous quality improvement in teaching and learning, which are key skills that advance both academic rigor and learner achievement. By systematically applying item analysis, faculty can refine assessment tools, ensure fairness, and reinforce the alignment between intended learning outcomes and actual student performance. As a priority project of the University, this initiative affirms the institution’s commitment to advancing Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) by strengthening assessment practices that directly measure student learning outcomes. By institutionalizing this initiative, the University affirms the importance of valid and reliable assessment in the OBE framework, thereby fostering more effective teaching, stronger learning outcomes, and a culture of academic excellence. UB, DepEd Tagbilaran City Division Team Up for Learners’ Convergence 2025

The University of Bohol (UB), in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) Tagbilaran City Division, successfully hosted the Tagbilaran City Division Learners’ Convergence 2025, a two-day leadership gathering held on September 16–17, 2025 at Reyna’s The Haven and Garden, Calceta Street, Cogon District, Tagbilaran City. The event brought together elementary and high school student leaders, along with their advisers, representing the city’s public schools. UB and DepEd Collaboration The convergence was made possible through DepEd’s invitation, coordinated by its dynamic Youth Formation Coordinator, Mrs. Joermelyne P. Pasilbas. Leading UB’s core facilitation team were Sofila L. Gantalao, JD, Principal of UB VDTALC Senior High School; Engr. Lemuel O. Belarmino, Ph.D., Dean, Student Personnel Services; and Mr. James Emmanuel Tabigue, UB Marketing Head, concurrent OIC CESO Head. They were ably supported by UB Guidance Counselors Quicy Mae Catalonia, Jessel S. Bacarisas, and Asherah Joy C. Francia, while UBSSG leaders Jessa Christie A. Tajale, Princess Marielle A. Tajale, Lee Rafaela G. Noble and Andrea O. Talosig added youthful energy as volunteers and animators throughout the sessions with Mrs. Elaine Joyce G. Nurturing Young Leaders for Nation-Building With the theme of cultivating values-based leadership, DIVISION LEARNCON 2025 sought to strengthen leadership skills, foster collaboration, and instill a culture of service among the youth toward the greater goal of nation-building. A Dynamic Lineup of Sessions The convergence featured transformative sessions facilitated by Team UB. Engr. Lemuel O. Belarmino, Ph.D., opened with “Start Young, Lead Strong!”—a call to plant the seed of leadership for nation-building. UB VDTALC Senior High Faculty Vince Anquilero, MA-Soc Sci, and Micah Bornea, LPT, followed with “From Ideas to Impact: Lead with Design!” highlighting the power of design thinking. James Emmanuel Tabigue then shared “Leadership that Moves,” underscoring leadership as service. Rounding out the sessions were Jay Mar J. Masibay, LPT, with “Leadership in the Social Media Era,” and Charisse Dianne A. Araco, LPT, with “Integrity in Budget Appropriation.” The event culminated with the much-anticipated Project Pitch Competition, where student leaders showcased their creativity, innovation, and passion for leadership through impactful proposals. Moving Forward DepEd Tagbilaran City Division officials expressed deep gratitude to UB for its unwavering collaboration, emphasizing that the convergence aligned perfectly with their mission of empowering learners to become responsive and proactive citizens while team UB was honored to share to all DepEd public schools the transformative power of Scholarship, Character, Service and Leadership in the field of student governance. UB VDTALC Alumnus to Represent PH at Asian Aquatics in India

Boholano bemedalled swimmer Rian Marco A. Tirol, former team captain of the University of Bohol (UB) Swimming Rockets and proud alumnus of the University of Bohol – Victoriano D. Tirol Advanced Learning Center (UB VDTALC), is set to represent the Philippines in the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship (AAC) 2025 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, from September 28 to October 12, 2025. A breaststroke specialist, Tirol holds two Philippine national records, five University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) records, two Palarong Pambansa records, and one Batang Pinoy record. He also previously captained the Ateneo Fast Swimming Team. Currently, he is pursuing his master’s degree in Business Administration at Ateneo de Manila University. Early in his elementary years at UB VDTALC, the young Tirol honed his swimming skills in the institution’s Olympic-size swimming pool, where the sport formed part of the school curriculum. UB VDTALC has long been recognized for producing caliber athletes who have set records at the local, regional, and national levels. Tirol will compete alongside five other elite Filipino swimmers as part of the 10-member Philippine delegation, which also includes divers and artistic swimmers. The official roster was confirmed in a memorandum issued by Philippine Aquatics, Inc. The delegation will be headed by Dick Victor Carmona, with coaching support from Ramil Ilustre (swimming), Xiaofeng Cui and Marie Antoinette Dimanche (diving), and Maria Graciella Jasmina Sanchez (artistic swimming). The Asian Aquatics Championship, held every four years, is a premier continental event featuring swimming, diving, and artistic swimming under the governance of Asia Aquatics and sanctioned by World Aquatics (formerly FINA). Performances will be recorded in the official World Aquatics database, with athletes earning points that contribute to their world rankings. The tournament also serves as a qualification pathway for future international competitions, including the 2026 World Championships and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, ensuring that the best Asian athletes compete on the global stage. UB Lends a Hand, Donates Armchairs to SJB Academy in Garcia Hernandez

 In line with its commitment to corporate social responsibility, the University of Bohol, through its Community Extension Services Office, donated 145 pre-owned student armchairs to St. John the Baptist Academy (SJBA) in Garcia Hernandez, Bohol. The donation was officially turned over by University President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III and gratefully received on behalf of SJBA by its School Principal, Mr. Ramon Caresosa, a distinguished alumnus of UB’s Teachers College. Underscoring the value of complementarity among schools in the province, the University of Bohol continues to extend both academic and non-academic support to public and private institutions as well as partner organizations. These interventions are carried out in collaboration with the Department of Education–Division of Bohol, the Tagbilaran City Division, the Bohol Association of Catholic Schools (BACS), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG),  Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) , Department of Health (DOH), Philippines Nurses Association (PNA) , Rural Health Units, Center for Youth Development Office (CYDO), Department of Tourism (DOT) , Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and civic organizations. Presently, UB’s adopted communities include LGU Libertad; Libertad Elementary School in Baclayon; LGU Cortes; Dela Paz Elementary School in Cortes; Barangay Poblacion (East and West) in  Alburquerque; LGU Dauis, Barangay Songculan in Dauis; Lourdes Elementary School in Cortes; LGU Alburquerque; Barangay Guiwanon in Baclayon; Barangay Concepcion in Loay; Barangay Bayacabac in Maribojoc; Barangay Manga in Tagbilaran City; LGU Tagbilaran,  and Bayacabac Elementary School in Maribojoc. Strengthening Academic Excellence by Capacitating Educators for a Transformative Future

The University warmly welcomed its 16 new faculty members through a two-day Training for Newly Hired Teachers held on September 8–9, 2025. The program was designed to prepare them for the dynamic demands of teaching by providing tools, strategies, and innovative approaches in teaching-learning. Day 1 tackled classroom management, lesson crafting with Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and Outcomes-Based Education (OBE), research-based instructional strategies, the art of questioning, and the use of AI in teaching, while Day 2 focused on 21st-century syllabi and lesson design, innovative teaching strategies, test construction, table of specifications, item analysis, and output presentations. The training was officially opened and meaningfully concluded with inspiring messages from Atty. Marlumina B. Teh, Vice President for Academic Affairs. More than just a training, the two-day event served as a platform for collaboration and professional growth, ensuring that newly hired teachers are ready to contribute meaningfully to the University’s vision of transforming lives for a great future. UB Karatedo Team Bags Medals in International Tournament

Adding another feather to its cap, the University of Bohol Karatedo Team showcased its skill and determination on the international stage, clinching one silver and seven bronze medals at the 6th MV Karatedo Philippines and International Championship 2025, held on August 22–24, 2025 at the Velodrome in Tagaytay City. Leading the medal haul was Johanne Khiro De Leon, who secured a silver medal, while fellow karatekas contributed to the bronze tally: Keiden Chantel Ellaine Kelk – 3 bronze medals, Leanna Marie Alvarez – 1 bronze medal, Csar Ezekiel Dosdos – 1 bronze medal, Eveline Van Der Hoek – 1 bronze medal, and Stiffany Mae Alvarez – 1 bronze medal. The hotly contested tournament drew the participation of national teams from Japan, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, New Zealand, and India. On the home front, the Philippines was represented by 1,250 athletes from different regions across the country, making the UB team’s achievement a remarkable feat. UB Student Government Hosts Annual Himamat: Celebrating Unity in Diversity

In a vibrant celebration of campus culture, the University of Bohol Supreme Student Government (UBSSG) hosted the annual Himamat — a traditional meet-and-greet that welcomes new students with a legacy walk while rekindling school spirit among resident students through music, fun, and unity. Held on August 29, 2025, at the vast Victoriano B. Tirol Jr. Sports Complex in the UB VDTALC Campus, the celebration showcased the annual recruitment of student organizations to welcome new members, foster camaraderie, and boost school pride. Carrying the theme Chromatopia X Panagdait Fair, the event underscored unity of purpose amid student diversity and ran from 12 noon until 9:00 in the evening. During the occasion , members of the academic and administrative councils were introduced  including the national and provincial officials of the student government. Speaking before an enthusiastic audience, UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III emphasized that Himamat is not only a celebration of heritage but also an invitation to explore the unknown, discover new passions, and embrace the transformative power of community. He reminded students and administrators alike that they are more than individuals striving for academic excellence—they are a collective force, united in purpose and capable of creating meaningful, positive change. Tirol further remarked that the true essence of a vibrant community lies in its ability to welcome differences, value one another’s stories, and stand united in the face of challenges. “Just as Chromatopia—a world alive with colors—brings students together to rejoice, connect, and learn, we too unite in harmony through education, understanding, and friendship,” he added. UB’s New Presidential Scholarship Program Admits 22 Scholars

A total of twenty-two students have been formally admitted into the University of Bohol’s (UB) newly established Presidential Scholarship Program (PSP) after successfully meeting the stringent requirements and passing the intensive screening interviews conducted by the University’s Scholarship Committee. The admission was formally sealed during the Presidential Scholarship Program Orientation and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held on August 29, 2025, at the University Instructional Resource Center (IRC). During the ceremony, the scholars, along with their parents and guardians, entered into an official agreement with the University administration. Under the MOA, a full scholarship is granted to qualified students who excel academically but are economically challenged, giving them renewed hope to complete the course of their choice. Unlike other existing school  scholarship programs, the new Presidential Scholarship provides distinct, broader and more comprehensive benefits. In his message, UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III recalled the battle cry of his grandfather and UB’s first president, Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol Sr., who championed the cause of “education for the masses.” He honored the late president as the visionary behind the pioneering work-scholar program of the then Rafael Palma College, now the University of Bohol—a program that helped produce distinguished leaders and professionals in both government and private sectors across the globe. Addressing the scholars and their families, Dr. Tirol reminded them that “every opportunity comes with responsibility.” He emphasized that being named a Presidential Scholar is a privilege that entails diligence, responsibility, and a commitment to the conditions outlined in the MOA. On a more personal note, the youthful president urged the scholars to believe in themselves, keep their faith, and never lose sight of their dreams. He also encouraged  parents and guardians for their unwavering support and called for their continued collaboration with the University in guiding the scholars toward academic excellence and holistic success. UB Greets Students as Classes Kick Off

With its trademark Boholano hospitality, the University of Bohol warmly welcomed both freshmen and resident students as School Year 2025–2026 for the college level officially opened on August 18, 2025. At the core of this warm reception is the TIMBAYA FESTIVAL, a week-long onboarding and orientation program that creates an engaging and inclusive environment for students through a series of activities, orientation sessions, and organization fairs held at the university’s main campus. The festival seeks to cultivate vibrant school spirit, strengthen the sense of belonging, and encourage active participation in campus life. It also provides a venue to introduce the University’s core values, culture, and support services as students embark on another academic journey. The opening ceremony on Monday set the tone for the festivities, as revelries filled the campus with energy and excitement. Departments showcased their unique styles of welcoming students, especially the freshmen, through lively performances. Adding to the festive atmosphere were artistically designed bamboo arches at the main gates, adorned with colorful umbrellas and fluttering flaglets that lined the pathways to the quadrangle. White and green confetti rained down on attendees, while department mascots brought cheer and entertainment, embodying the university’s dynamic and spirited culture. Amidst the sun-kissed shoreline and gentle sea breeze of Cristal Haven Resort in Panglao, a group of managers and supervisors from the University of Bohol converged  for what was meant to be a simple gathering. Yet, as the day unfolded, it evolved into a rich tapestry of camaraderie and shared purpose—binding together those who aspire, dedicate themselves to their calling, and wholeheartedly uphold the vision and mission of the premier institution. Marking a milestone in the institution’s management dynamics, SYNERGIA 2025 carried the theme “Teambuilding for Managers and Supervisors”—an intervention thoughtfully crafted by the Human Resource Department to enhance performance and strengthen leadership bonds. The university’s top executives lent their full support, led by UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III, joined by Atty. Marlumina B. Teh, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Ms. Ria Eva M. Sevilla, Vice President for Administration; and Dr. Maricel A. Tirol, Vice President for Finance. The day opened with a solemn morning prayer and the singing of hymns. In his welcome address, President Tirol echoed the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities’ (PACU) call for greater complementarity among schools and institutions of higher learning, to elevate the standards of quality education. As leaders, he stressed that, teamwork and collaboration—not competition—are the marching orders of the day. He reminded the managers and supervisors of their responsibility to themselves, their colleagues, the institution, and most importantly, to the stakeholders who believe in UB’s mission and vision. Despite his youthful age, the President has embraced the wisdom that comes from understanding one’s strengths, weaknesses, values, and emotions. “As members of one UB family, let us work together, share our potentials, and maintain healthy boundaries,” he urged. Morning Session: Energy and Enthusiasm The day’s activities began with a burst of energy as participants engaged in Zumba, shaking off any early morning stiffness. This was followed by a series of group games designed to foster teamwork, coordination, and leadership. Despite the scorching sun, the teams frolicked on the white sand, their competitive spirits matched only by their laughter and cheers. A brief pause came at midday, when the group enjoyed a sumptuous lunch under the cool shade of coconut palms—a well-earned reward after the lively morning.   Afternoon Session: Balance and Reflection After a brief siesta, the mood gently shifted to one of calm and focus as participants joined a rejuvenating yoga session. Barefoot on the warm sand, they stretched and breathed in unison, each movement flowing with mindful grace. The tranquil atmosphere mingled with soft, serene melodies, enveloping the group in a sense of deep relaxation, mental clarity, and quiet well-being. Right after,  the games resumed,  keeping  the spirit of fun and cooperation until the afternoon’s highlight – the signing of the commitment wall. One by one, managers and supervisors penned their reflections and personal pledges, a symbolic gesture of their dedication to the institution and its people.   The formal program concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from Mrs. Precious Joy D. Baguio, Human Resources Manager, followed by short but inspiring messages from the three vice presidents.   Evening Socials: Music, Laughter, and Friendship As the sun dipped below the horizon, participants enjoyed a refreshing break before gathering again for a delectable evening buffet. The night came alive with songs, laughter, and the warm camaraderie of colleagues. Home-grown talents emerged as the program unravelled, and the open-air  venue buzzed with joy—a fitting close to a day filled with both purposeful engagement and light-hearted connection. SYNERGIA 2025 was more than just a teambuilding event—it was a shared journey toward understanding, commitment, and unity. UB Extends International Education Network to South Korea with Quipper Philippines Inc.

In line with the University’s endeavor to meet international benchmarks of educational excellence, University of Bohol and Chadwick International School Korea have completed a full-circle exchange of institutional visits—an initiative made possible through the support of Quipper Philippines Inc. – the educational content provider of UB VDTALC Senior High School Department. The most recent engagement took place on Friday, August 8, when Dr. Soleiman Dias, Director for Alumni and International Relations of Chadwick International School in Korea, together with the Quipper Philippines Inc. team—Mr. Eleazar Moradas, Ms. First Jane Piezas, and Mr. Omar Socias—visited the University of Bohol. The visit featured a tour of both the UB Main and UB VDTALC campuses. Welcomed by UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III and UB VDTALC Senior High School Principal, Ms. Sofila Lafuente-Gantalao, both parties exchanged insights on fostering academic excellence while promoting holistic student growth in response to the evolving educational landscape. UB Holds Annual Leadership Program

UB Nursing Researchers Win Awards at PNA Research Conference

Strengthening its culture of research among faculty and students, the University of Bohol (UB) Nursing Department once again sent one Clinical Instructor and four students to present their studies at the Sandugo 2025 Nursing Research Conference held on July 24, 2025, at the Bohol Cultural Center, Tagbilaran City. Dean Myrna B. Bernaldez of the College of Allied Health Sciences proudly announced that in the Professional Category, Mrs. Layna B. Opaco won 1st Place with her study titled “University of Bohol: Assessing Knowledge, Attitude, and Barriers Towards Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Among Residents in Purok 4, San Isidro, Tagbilaran City.” In the Student Category, the following researchers also earned distinctions for their respective studies: Keven Louise V. Fudalan – 1st Place: “Knowledge, Perception, and Use of Genetic Medications among Residents in Tagbilaran City, Bohol”;  Claire G. UB Student Lands Job in Japan Through Internship Abroad Program

Earl Kenneth Tagaytay Pocot, a graduate of the University of Bohol (UB) College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, has officially secured full-time employment at Tokyu Hotel in Japan. His hiring followed the successful completion of the intensive training under the Student Internship Abroad Program—an international collaboration between UB and the Tokyu Hotels Group. In line with shaping the University of Bohol’s trajectory toward 2030, a two-day planning session was held at the University Information Resource Center (IRC) with executive officers, administrative heads, process owners, and stakeholders last July 10-11, 2025. The Institutional Development Plan (IDP) 2030 embodies UB’s renewed commitment to producing exceptional graduates, fostering responsive systems, and deepening its impact on local and global communities. The University of Bohol IDP 2030 Core Committee led by Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol, III, University President, Dr. Maricel A. Tirol, Vice President for Finance, Dr. Marlumina B. Teh, Vice President for Academic Affairs together with the Deans, Principals and Unit Heads. Dr. Leah Wilfreda Pilongo, Dean of the University Research Center, shared international and CHED-aligned priorities, advocating for: Higher academic qualifications (PhD, JD) Promotion of 21st-century skills and entrepreneurship Greater research output and citations Global standards in instruction and curriculum Integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)   These priorities became the springboard for the write shop sessions that followed—where eight institutional clusters came together not just to revise plans, but to reimagine what the University of Bohol can become. With clarity of purpose and bold determination, they refined UB’s strategic objectives and performance indicators to reflect the changing needs of education and society. The two-day session ended not simply with outputs, but with a profound sense of unity—a collective heartbeat that echoed across every room. The IDP 2030 is more than a roadmap; it is a living testament to UB’s unwavering mission to transform lives through Scholarship, Character, and Service. As UB steps into 2030, it does so with renewed strength and shared resolve. Sharpening Pedagogical Tools: Training the Trainers

In line with its commitment to advancing teaching excellence and professional development, the University successfully concluded part 2 of the Summer Institute 2025: Training of Trainers on Effective Teaching Practices, held on July 7–8, 2025 at the University’s Information Research Center (IRC). The two-day intensive training workshop brought together academic leaders, including deans, program chairs, program heads, academic coordinators, and selected faculty members for a focused learning experience on enhancing pedagogical effectiveness across programs. The training was facilitated by Dr. Mardy Verano, Executive Director and Lead Coach of Edustudio Learning and Training Services, who led  in-depth sessions on critical aspects of teaching and learning, including effective questioning techniques, innovative teaching strategies, rubric development, and lesson design. Furthermore, the training enabled participants to develop and validate rubric systems tailored to measure student learning outcomes effectively. Through collaborative discussions and evaluative activities, attendees also explored various questioning frameworks and instructional strategies to create personalized and context-responsive pedagogical approaches. The Summer Institute is an annual University’s strategic initiative to institutionalize quality and excellence in instruction. UB President Lauds Campus Karatekas for International Wins

University of Bohol (UB) President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol, III, proudly welcomed and honored the UB Karate-Do Team following their victorious campaign at the 24th Milo International Karate-Do Championship 2025, held on June 19–22 at Titingwasa Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The UB karatekas showcased exceptional skill and discipline, bringing pride to the university and the country with multiple medal wins across various age categories. Leading the team was Daphne Maykayla Edillo, who clinched a Gold Medal in the 6–7 years old K-2 category. She was followed by: Justie Athena Jaspe – Silver Medalist, Kumite (14–15 years old, 54 kg girls) and Bronze Medalist, Team Kata (14–17 girls);Leanne Marie Alvarez – Bronze Medalist, Individual Kumite (16–17 years old, 47 kg girls) and Bronze Medalist, Team Kata (14–17 girls); Eveline Van Der Hoek – Bronze Medalist, Individual Kata (16–17 girls) and Kumite (16–17 girls, 59 kg); Stiffany Mae Alvarez – Bronze Medalist, Kumite (under 21 years old female category, 50 kg );  Feliz Emm Rulona – Bronze Medalist, Team Kata (14–17 girls); and  Diana Cher Lañada – Bronze Medalist, Kumite (10–11 years old, 34 kg). Learning Beyond Borders: UB Benchmarks Leading Academic Hubs in Davao City

Benchmarking is a strategic process of learning from higher education institutions that demonstrate exemplary quality standards and outcomes. It enables universities to identify and adopt evidence-based practices, foster innovation, and establish meaningful partnerships while engaging in critical reflection to assess institutional strengths and areas for improvement. In pursuit of this goal, the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs spearheaded a benchmarking visit to three of Davao City’s top-performing universities: the University of Mindanao (UM), Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU), and the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP). The academic delegation was led by Atty. Marlumina B. Teh, Vice President for Academic Affairs, together with academic coordinators, program chairpersons, and program heads. UM is recognized as a leading research institution, ranking 65th nationally, 2nd in the Davao Region in the AD Scientific Index, and 23rd out of 235 Philippine universities in the latest UniRank rankings. The UB delegation was warmly received by Dr. Carmencita E. Vidamo, Senior Vice President for Personnel Services and University Registrar, and Ms. Esterlina B. Gevera, Deputy Quality Management Representative for Academics. A key highlight was UM’s Academic Affairs and the Institute of Pedagogical Advancement and Competitiveness (IPAC), which ensures curriculum quality, academic standard enforcement, and faculty development through data-driven processes. UM has institutionalized academic performance tracking through a proprietary software system equipped with a curriculum map calculator and AUN-QA calculator. The team also toured UM’s cutting-edge laboratories, museum, research centers, and its three-storey library, renowned as the largest in Mindanao. AdDU continues to distinguish itself as a center of academic innovation, ranking 1st in Mindanao and 11th in the Philippines in the 2025 QS World University Rankings. Mr. Jeremy S. Eliab, Executive Vice President, welcomed the UB team. The benchmarking discussions centered on curriculum development, instructional innovation, research initiatives, student services, and institutional advancement. It also shared its best practices on systems thinking, digital transformation, flexible learning environments, and inclusive governance. USeP holds a national ranking of 17th and is 2nd in the Davao Region according to the 2025 UniRank assessment. The UB delegation was received by Dr. Jeneifer C. UB Celebrates Athletes’ Sporting Achievements

As part of its continued support for sports development among students, University of Bohol President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III personally commended the athletes for their outstanding performances during a Thanksgiving Gathering held in June 2025 at the Victoriano B. Tirol Jr. Sports Complex, Tagbilaran City. A total of 57 student-athletes and 12 coaches who participated and won medals in the 2025 National PRISAA Games and Palarong Pambansa were recognized. In his message, Dr. Tirol expressed deep appreciation for the achievements of the students, coaches, and officials. He emphasized that their successes call not only for celebration but also for thanksgiving to God for the blessings bestowed upon the institution. Dr. Tirol also highlighted the importance of self-discipline and focus in developing individual talents and skills in athletics, stressing that greatness in any endeavor is unattainable without discipline. A sports enthusiast himself, the University President reminded the athletes to maintain good working relationships with their coaches and trainers, who have been instrumental in their continued development as professional athletes. “The key to sustainability in any endeavor lies in collaboration,” Tirol stressed. UB joins PGBohol and BPEMO in tree planting and growing activity

In line with its commitment to environmental stewardship, civic responsibility, and community engagement, the University of Bohol (UB) joined the tree planting and growing activity held on June 25, 2025, in Jambawan, Lila, Bohol. The activity was part of the nationwide celebration of Philippine Environment Month and Philippine Arbor Day, spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGB) through the Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO). Representatives from UB—composed of employees, students, and alumni—actively participated in the initiative, showcasing the university’s continuing dedication to sustainable development and environmental protection. In a memorandum issued by UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III, members of the UB community were encouraged to take part in the activity. “The tree planting activity not only affirms our institutional virtue of service but also aligns with the university’s mission of cultivating graduates who are environmentally conscious and socially responsible,” Dr. Tirol emphasized. UB secures PAASCU re-accreditation for five programs

The University of Bohol (UB) has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence as it secured Level III re-accreditation status from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) for five of its academic programs. The re-accredited programs include AB Philosophy, AB Political Science, AB Language Studies, BS Elementary Education, BS Secondary Education, and Business Administration. These programs have been granted re-accreditation for a five-year period, valid until May 2030. In an official communication addressed to UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol, III, PAASCU Executive Director Ricardo R. Palo formally conveyed the favorable results of the accreditation process, reaffirming UB’s dedication to quality assurance in higher education. Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs Successfully Launches Summer Institute 2025: Training for Trainers

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs spearheaded the successful implementation of the first phase of the Summer Institute 2025: Training for Trainers, held on June 16–18, 2025. The program aims to build a pool of academic leaders equipped to champion innovative and learner-centered pedagogies in higher education. The first two days focused on Mastering the Design Thinking Pedagogical Approach, a transformative training that deepened participants’ understanding of the Design Thinking framework—Sense, Empathy, Ideation, and Prototype—and its classroom applications. Through interactive sessions, the participants gained the competencies necessary to integrate human-centered problem-solving into their instruction. This was facilitated by Engr. Lloyd Jhon B. Estampa, PECE, DTE, Director for Innovative Teaching and Learning at the University of Southern Philippines. The third day featured SwiftGrade, an AI-powered assessment tool designed to streamline grading processes and provide educators with instant feedback and analytics. The session, led by Dr. Norma J. Apao, Program Head of Computer Science and Computer Engineering at the University of Bohol, introduced participants to the practical use of AI in enhancing assessment efficiency and data-informed instruction. This capacity-building initiative marks a significant step toward the University’s commitment to academic innovation and excellence. Retired SC Justice Carpio to address UB graduates

Retired Supreme Court Justice Antonio Tirol Carpio, former Chair of the High Court’s Second Division and the Senate Electoral Tribunal, will deliver the keynote address at the University of Bohol’s 164th Commencement Exercises. Justice Carpio is set to speak before more than 1,000 graduates on June 11, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr. Sports Complex, Taloto District, Tagbilaran City. Photo: www.justiceantoniotcarpio.com A staunch advocate of the Philippines’ sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea, Justice Carpio gained national and international prominence for his legal work and educational campaigns on the maritime dispute. In 2015, the Department of Foreign Affairs sponsored his global lecture tour, where he presented the Philippine position on the West Philippine Sea issue to universities and think tanks in 30 cities across 17 countries. His research was later published in an e-book titled The South China Sea Dispute: Philippine Sovereign Rights and Jurisdiction in the West Philippine Sea. Born in Davao City, Carpio was appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on October 26, 2001. At age 52, he was among the youngest appointees to the High Court. He is also recognized as the architect of the Supreme Court e-Library, the first full-text searchable and retrievable online law library in the Philippines and one of the first of its kind in Asia. Associate Justice Carpio retired from the Supreme Court on October 26, 2019 upon reaching the compulsory retirement age of 70. Retired Justice Carpio will be formally introduced by Mrs. Sofila L. UBohol hosts 10th CVHRIC; UB President urges utilization of research for community impact

In a continued commitment to promoting research-based health initiatives, the University of Bohol (UB) hosted the 10th Central Visayas Health Research & Innovation Conference (CVHRIC) on May 20–22, 2025 at the Victoriano D. Tirol Advanced Learning Center (VDTALC) Mini-Theater, and Bohol Cultural Center, Tagbilaran City. UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III formally welcomed participants during the Pre-Conference Program, where he emphasized the crucial role of translating research into practice. “Research must not end in publication –  its value lies in its utilization. Let us continue to push the boundaries of health theory and practice, generate solutions for today’s pressing challenges, and prepare for the uncertainties of tomorrow,” Dr. Tirol said. He commended the Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development (CVCHRD) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for their leadership in steering initiatives that empower communities and make universal health care more accessible. Anchored on the theme “Empowering Communities in Central Visayas Towards Universal Health Care,” the three-day conference brought together key figures in the field of health research and development, including: Dr. Tristan L. Abando, OIC-Regional Director of DOST and Director, CVCHRD; Dr. Enrico B. Gruet, Chairperson, CVCHRD and Vice President, Cebu Doctors’ University; Dr. Manuel Emerson S. Donaldo, PETRO-Chair, Cebu South Medical Center; Executive Committee Chair, CVCHRD; Chairperson, Central Visayas Research Ethics Committee (CVREC); Dr. Leah Wilfreda E. Pilongo, Dean of Research and Graduate School, University of Bohol Also in attendance were representatives from regional academic and medical institutions, including  Cebu Normal University, University of San Jose–Recoletos, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebu South Medical Center, Silliman University, Negros Oriental State University, Gov. Pre-Conference Activities            The Pre-Conference featured a plenary talk by Dr. Leah Wilfreda E. Pilongo, who presented the study on “Evaluating the Implementation of the National Dengue Prevention and Control Program in Bohol.” Other notable activities included a 3-Minute Pitch to Policymakers segment titled “Translating Research to Policy,” and a Research Ethics Committee (REC) Orientation led by: Dr. Manuel Emerson S. Donaldo; Dr. Leah Wilfreda E. Pilongo; Mr. Marc Ryan Portuguez, Training Officer, Cebu South Medical Center; and Ms. Ellen Grace G. Gerolaga, Science Research Assistant, DOST VII            A parallel session titled HeaRTNovation Promotion Event was also held at the UB Instructional Resource Center.   Main Conference Highlights            Day 1 of the main conference began with a keynote address from Dr. Jaime C. Montoya, Executive Director of the DOST–Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD). This was followed by Plenary Session 1 on youth health care, presented by Dr. Judith Rafaelita B. Borja, Consultant-Investigator at the USC–Office of Population Studies Foundation, Inc., and introduced by Dr. Pilongo.            A Research Podium Presentation Session followed, with participants grouped into Professional and Student categories. Judges were introduced by Dr. Johnny J. Yao, Jr., Chair of the R&D Committee, CVCHRD, while Dr. Jezyl Cutamora of Cebu Normal University presented the podium guidelines. The day concluded with a networking night at the Bohol Cultural Center.            Day 2 featured Plenary Session 2 titled “Making HIV Care Universal: A Pathway to a Healthier Future,” delivered by Dr. Helen V. Madamba, Medical Specialist IV, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. She was introduced by Dr. July Ann F. Gimena, Chairperson of the CBC, CVCHRD.            A final discussion on “Ways Forward” was delivered by Dr. Manuel Emerson Donaldo, followed by the awarding of plaques of appreciation to the host institution and a presentation on the conference highlights. The event concluded with the turnover ceremony for the hosting of CVHRIC 2026 to the Cebu Institute of Medicine, with the University of San Jose–Recoletos as co-host.            Ms. Vina R. Antopina, Provincial Science and Technology Director of DOST-PSTO Bohol, formally closed the conference with her remarks.   Highest Award            The University of Bohol was awarded the highest distinction—the Elena Diola Award—by the Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development (CVCHRD) for its outstanding research engagement and publication.            In addition to the university-wide recognition, several individuals also earned accolades in their respective categories: Professional Category –  Ralph Rey C. University of Bohol Opens UWater Refilling Station, Aims for Sustainability and Community Support

Tagbilaran City, Bohol — The University of Bohol (UB) proudly inaugurated its very own UWater Refilling Station on May 18th, 2025, marking another milestone in the institution’s commitment to sustainability, community development, and shared enterprise. Strategically located within the university premises, the UWater Refilling Station is designed to provide safe, affordable, and high-quality drinking water to UB students, employees, and stakeholders. The initiative, fully owned and operated by the university, is a step forward in the realization of a self-sustaining UBian community. During the opening ceremony, university officials emphasized the importance of supporting university-led ventures that serve both practical and developmental purposes. “This project is more than just a water station. It is a symbol of our vision for a resilient and empowered UBian community,” said a representative from UB Management. In line with its mission of service, UB is offering a special discounted rate of Php 20.00 per 5 gallon container exclusively for UB employees, while the general public may avail of the service at Php 25.00 per 5 gallon container. This pricing scheme not only makes purified water accessible but also acknowledges the loyalty and contributions of the university’s personnel. The launch was met with warm support from various departments and offices within the university. Invited university officials and office heads flocked to the station following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, signaling strong internal patronage. UB Management urges all members of the UB family to continue supporting the UWater Refilling Station and to take pride in this new venture that underscores the university’s values of Scholarship, Character, and Service. UBohol unveils UB CREATES

In its pursuit of cultivating a global mindset and a strong sense of social responsibility among students, the University of Bohol officially launched the Center for Excellence in Arts, Technology, and Sciences (UB CREATES) on April 24, 2025, at the university gymnasium. The project was formally kicked off with an inaugural program featuring Dr. Tristan L. Abando, Officer-in-Charge Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VII, as the keynote speaker. Also gracing the event were Dr. Maria Luz P. Villarante, Dean of Planning and Special Projects; Dr. Leah Wilfreda E. Pilongo, Dean of Graduate Studies and University Research Center; Dr. Marlumina B. Teh, Vice President for Academic Affairs;  and Ms. Ria Eva M. Sevilla, Vice President for Administration. University President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III and Vice President for Finance Dr. Maricel A. Tirol joined the event virtually and shared their messages through pre-recorded videos. The program was hosted by James Emmanuel Tabigue, Marketing Department Head and concurrent Community Extension Services Officer , who served as the master of ceremonies. UB CREATES is more than just a center—it is a dynamic hub where passion meets purpose and where ideas come to life. Designed to nurture creativity, innovation, and critical thinking, the center serves as a launchpad for aspiring thinkers, makers, and changemakers. UB-Local Poll Survey 2025 Results

Introduction The University of Bohol (UB), through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, undertook the conduct of a province-wide local poll survey from April 22 to 28, 2025, in anticipation of the upcoming May 12 local elections. This internally funded, non-partisan research is grounded in the University’s dedication to promoting active citizenry, participatory democracy, and evidence-informed governance. The poll survey aims to give empirical insights that capture the stakeholders’ ability to react more successfully to community issues by methodically gathering local voters’ opinions, preferences, and concerns.  Trained volunteers from the university personnel actively participated in the poll. These volunteers were involved in the orientation and capacity-building sessions covering field data collecting techniques, survey methodology, and research ethics orientation, including real-world simulations. This methodical planning guaranteed consistency in data collection over several sampling sites, ethical compliance, and methodological rigor.  This project best illustrates the university’s proactive academic orientation that supports democratic processes through education, scholarship, and direct civic participation. Therefore, the poll survey provides an unbiased, research-based forum for raising the voice of the voters and advancing local inclusive, responsible, and open government. It supports UB’s institutional aim of using ethical leadership and transforming education to produce socially conscious people and strong communities.   Objectives: To assess the priority issues and concerns of local voters that influence their electoral choices; To examine voter awareness, trust, and perceptions regarding political candidates, including levels of satisfaction with incumbent leaders. To determine the voting preferences of the electorate in the province in relation to the May 12, 2025 local elections, including preferred candidates for key local positions.   Research Methodology Design. This study employed a quantitative-descriptive survey design to assess voter perceptions across the province of Bohol. The design was selected to facilitate the systematic collection and analysis of structured data, allowing for generalizations about the broader voting population. By utilizing a probability-based sampling approach, the study ensured that findings reflect the diversity of perspectives among registered voters in different congressional and legislative districts. Sampling Frame. The Commission on Elections (COMELEC), provincial and city offices provided the official list of the number of registered voters that was the basis for the sampling frame. This voter data enabled a proportionate allocation of sample spots across the province to ensure balanced representation. DISTRICT No. of Respondents Percent TAGBILARAN CITY 100 7.6 DISTRICT 1 (excluding Tagbilaran City) 100 25.8 DISTRICT 1 (including Tagbilaran City) 200 33.43 DISTRICT 2 200 33.3 DISTRICT 3 200 33.3 Total 600 100 For sampling purposes, Bohol was divided into four study areas: (1) Tagbilaran City, (2) District 1 (excluding Tagbilaran), (3) District 2, and (4) District 3. A total of 600 registered voters were selected as the sample, providing an estimated margin of error of ±4.00% at a 95% confidence level for the whole bohol,±7% for districts 1, 2, and 3; and ±10.00% for Tagbilaran City and District 1 (excluding Tagbilaran City). This sample size was considered adequate to capture differences in voter perceptions while maintaining statistical validity. Sampling Procedure. The study used a multi-stage probability sampling method to ensure representative and impartial data. First, Bohol was divided into congressional districts. Municipalities in each district were divided into clusters based on their voting population size. Barangays were chosen from these clusters and classified as urban or rural to maintain geographic and demographic balance. Finally, houses within each barangay were selected via systematic sampling, with one eligible respondent interviewed for each household. Study Sites Key Findings Governor Candidates The survey result shows that Aumentado holds a consistent and dominant lead across all surveyed districts, particularly in District 2. Dan Lim’s support is concentrated mainly in Tagbilaran, suggesting a localized voter base. Leopando’s support remains marginal throughout. The margin of error for the entire province is ±4%. Vice-Governor Candidates Nick Besas is currently the leading candidate across survey areas. The high undecided rates, especially in District 1 (43.8%), without Tagbilaran City indicate that the race remains fluid and open to shifts, particularly if opposition campaigns increase visibility or address voter concerns. Besas is in a strong position, but the outcome will depend on how the 25.2% undecided voters lean. Board Member Candidates for District 1 Arcamo, Lagunay, and Tirol are currently the strongest candidates for District 1 BM. Damalerio and Herrera could be contenders with help from undecided voters. Lower-ranked candidates face an uphill battle unless major shifts in voter preference occur. Board Member Candidates for District 2 The polling indicates a clear advantage for Abapo and Villamor, while three other candidates (Estavilla, Garcia, and Boniel) remain in a more competitive, but trailing position. With few undecided voters, significant shifts in voter preference are unlikely unless major campaign developments occur. Board Member Candidates for District 3 The data shows Tita Baja and DJ Balite tied as a frontrunner, with Greg Jala and Nathaniel Binlod as strong contenders. The remaining candidates are significantly behind and would need significant campaign gains or benefit from shifts among the undecided voters to become competitive. The relatively low undecided rate implies that most voters have already made up their minds. District 1 Representative In the overall, Yap has 40.9% and Chatto has 27.6%, however, with the margin of error of +/-7%, the lower limit of Yap is 33.9% and the upper limit of Chatto is 34.6% crossed. With this result, it can be construed that there is a statistical tie between the two candidates. This implies that there is a close fight between Yap and Chatto. For the District 1 (excluding Tagbilaran) with the margin of error of +/-10%, the lower limit of Yap is 26.5%, the upper limit of Chatto is 37.9%, and Pizarras is 33.7%, those figures crossed, hence, there is a statistical tie among the three contenders. District 2 Representative VanVan Aumentado is the clear front-runner. This indicates strong dominance in the race. Modesto Membreve faces a significant gap that would be very difficult to overcome without a major shift in voter sentiment. In a continuing effort to champion informed citizenry and promote data-driven dialogue within the province, the University of Bohol, through its Research Center, will formally present the results of the recently concluded 2025 Province-wide Poll Survey Results on May 5, 2025 (Monday) at 2:00 PM at the University of Bohol Instructional Resource Center (UB IRC). Conducted from April 22 to 28, 2025, the UB-Local Poll Survey engaged respondents from across the province, gathering vital data on public opinion regarding pressing local issues and voter sentiments in anticipation of the 2025 local elections. The survey serves as a timely and relevant barometer of the Boholano community’s current pulse—providing insight into the priorities and expectations of the electorate as election season approaches. This initiative forms part of the University of Bohol’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, social responsibility, and nation-building. By generating and sharing evidence-based findings, the institution seeks to foster public awareness and encourage civic engagement rooted in facts rather than speculation. The formal presentation will feature an in-depth analysis of the survey methodology, key findings, and notable trends that emerged from the data. Policymakers, local government officials, educators, students, media professionals, civil society organizations, and the public are invited to attend and participate in the discourse. “We believe that reliable data is a powerful tool in shaping communities and enabling wise leadership,” said a representative from the University of Bohol Research Center. “The 2025 Bohol Poll Survey is more than just numbers—it is the voice of the people, and it deserves to be heard.” All interested individuals and stakeholders are cordially invited to attend the event. Renowned artist presents original artwork to UB President

An authentic oil-on-canvas masterpiece by internationally acclaimed artist Elvin Perocho Vitor was formally handed over to University of Bohol President, Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III, in a ceremony held at the Office of the President on April 15, 2025. Titled Victory Horses, the one-of-a-kind original artwork is a product of Vitor’s keen observation, vivid imagination, and artistic expression. Specially crafted for the University’s 5th President, the piece embodies both personal symbolism and artistic brilliance. Vitor, a proud alumnus of the University of Bohol, earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, major in Advertising Arts, in March 2018. He was commissioned by the university to create an artwork for the Office of the President. His accomplishments in the international art scene continue to bring pride to the UB community, and this generous contribution stands as a testament to his enduring connection with his alma mater. On April 14, 2024, Vitor received the prestigious Leonardo Da Vinci International Award at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, Italy. Later this year, in October, he is set to showcase his work at the Louvre Museum in Paris—the world’s largest and most visited art museum, home to timeless masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Liberty Leading the People. UB Criminal Justice ranks among Top Performing Schools in Region VII

UB VDTALC dominates Tagbilaran Saulog Quiz Bee 2025

Showcasing academic excellence, a team from the University of Bohol Victoriano D. Tirol Advanced Learning Center (UB VDTALC) Junior High School emerged as the champion in the Tagbilaran Saulog Quiz Bee 2025. The competition, which tested participants in English, Science, and Mathematics, was held on March 22, 2025, at the Bohol Cultural Center, Tagbilaran City. The winning team was composed of Abiah Cris G. Salces, James Timothy Q. Florenosos, Janrito Jydan S. Palma, and John Rhaine Pesquira, under the expert coaching of Teacher Ian Garcia. Meanwhile, another group of UB VDTALC Junior High School students secured 2nd runner-up honors in the Bohol Culture, History, and Tourism category. The team, consisting of Dastan Aleph D. Albuera, Bea T. De Juan, Vince Gabriel A. Bernaldez, and Princess Jamilla M. Amores, was guided by Teacher JR Medardo as coach. UB VDTALC and Quipper Philippines host Two-Day Skills Enhancement Program for High School Students

University of Bohol Victoriano D. Tirol Advanced Learning Center Senior High School (UB VDTALC Senior High), in partnership with Quipper Philippines Inc., successfully conducted a two-day skills enhancement program for High School students from Quipper member schools in Bohol on February 27–28, 2025, at the UB VDTALC Mini Theater. This two-day collaborative initiative of the University of Bohol Marketing Department and Quipper Philippines Inc., is designed to enhance leadership skills, teamwork, and personal development among High School students. It provided valuable insights, mentorship, and hands-on experiences to empower the next generation of leaders in Bohol. The first day of the program featured the 1st Bohol Quipper Schools Research Congress, an academic gathering designed to immerse students in research methodologies and best practices. The event provided students the opportunity to learn from experts across various fields through keynote speeches and interactive sessions focused on research writing, data analysis, and publication. UB Pres. Tirol re-elected to the BSP Council Board

University of Bohol President, Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III, has been re-elected as a member of the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) – Bohol Council during the Annual Council Meeting held on February 19, 2025, at K of C Drive, Poblacion II, Tagbilaran City. Dr. Tirol will serve another three-year term alongside fellow board members: Representative Edgar M. Chatto, Atty. Handel T. Lagunay, and Hon. Aldner R. Damalerio. A dedicated advocate of scouting, Dr. Tirol is an Eagle Scout awardee, the highest rank conferred upon a Senior Scout by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. To earn this prestigious distinction, a Scout must lead the planning and execution of two community service projects and obtain a total of 23 merit badges—comprising 17 required merit badges and two specialist ratings, each involving three related merit badges and an additional community service project. The term Eagle Scout, Eagle, or Agila refers to an individual who has received this distinguished honor. The award’s name originates from the Eagle Scout rank established by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). From 1923 to 1936, during the period when the Philippines was a U.S. protectorate, the BSA administered the Boy Scouts program in the country through the Philippine Council, BSA. The Annual Council Meeting also featured Dr. Marvin M. Nicer, Youth Development Officer V, BSP Eastern Visayas Region, as the keynote speaker.
