In line with shaping the University of Bohol’s trajectory toward 2030, a two-day planning session was held at the University Information Resource Center (IRC) with executive officers, administrative heads, process owners, and stakeholders last July 10-11, 2025.

The Institutional Development Plan (IDP) 2030 embodies UB’s renewed commitment to producing exceptional graduates, fostering responsive systems, and deepening its impact on local and global communities.

The University of Bohol IDP 2030 Core Committee led by Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol, III, University President, Dr. Maricel A. Tirol, Vice President for Finance, Dr. Marlumina B. Teh, Vice President for Academic Affairs together with the Deans, Principals and Unit Heads.

In recognition of its strong and enduring partnership with the City Government of Tagbilaran, the University of Bohol (UB) was honored with the Public Alliance Award during the 59th Charter Day Celebration of Tagbilaran City on July 1, 2025, held at the Bohol Wisdom School gymnasium.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Censoria Cajes-Yap, together with Vice Mayor Atty. Adam Jala, and City Administrator Alvin Acuzar personally presented the award to UB in acknowledgment of the university’s active role in promoting transformative education, responsive governance, and sustainable community development.

The city lauded UB’s unwavering commitment to collaborative engagement, citing its invaluable support and consistent participation in joint civic and academic initiatives. The recognition affirms the shared vision and partnership between UB and the local government in driving positive change for the community.

Day 1: Groundwork for Strategic Reflection

The planning workshop began with an invocation led by Mr. James Emmanuel Tabigue, Marketing Head.  Dr. Marlumina B. Teh, Vice President for Academic Affairs, welcomed the participants with a call to align academic excellence with responsive administration. Dr. Maricel A. Tirol, Vice President for Finance, underscored the importance of financial prudence in driving innovation.

Dr. Maricel A. Tirol, Vice President for Finance, underscored the importance of sound financial governance as a cornerstone in guiding the University of Bohol toward long-term stability and sustainable growth.

For his part, UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III outlined the University’s envisioned direction for the next five years, urging the entire community to embrace the challenge of transformation. His message underscored bold thinking, faculty empowerment, student-centered approaches, and enhanced community relevance.

The core of the morning session centered on the review of the University Strategy Map 2025 and the Balance Scorecard, facilitated by Dr. Maria Luz Villarante, Dean of Planning and Quality Assurance. Key performance gaps and gains were identified across strategic objectives including employability, board performance, financial management, facilities, and student support services.

UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III charted a visionary five-year direction, calling the UB community to lead transformative change through empowered faculty, student-focused innovation, and deeper community impact.

Day 2 opened with reflections from Ms. Ria Eva Sevilla, Vice President  for Administration, who highlighted the need to transform policies into pathways for innovation. Dr. Villarante recapped Day 1 insights, emphasizing that the ideas generated were now stepping stones for reform.

Dr. Leah Wilfreda Pilongo, Dean of the University Research Center, shared international and CHED-aligned priorities, advocating for:

  • Higher academic qualifications (PhD, JD)
  • Promotion of 21st-century skills and entrepreneurship
  • Greater research output and citations
  • Global standards in instruction and curriculum
  • Integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

These priorities became the springboard for the write shop sessions that followed—where eight institutional clusters came together not just to revise plans, but to reimagine what the University of Bohol can become. With clarity of purpose and bold determination, they refined UB’s strategic objectives and performance indicators to reflect the changing needs of education and society.

The two-day session ended not simply with outputs, but with a profound sense of unity—a collective heartbeat that echoed across every room. The IDP 2030 is more than a roadmap; it is a living testament to UB’s unwavering mission to transform lives through Scholarship, Character, and Service.

As UB steps into 2030, it does so with renewed strength and shared resolve. What lies ahead is not just institutional growth, but a future shaped by the courage, compassion, and conviction of UBians—ready to lead, ready to serve, and ready to build a university that truly makes a difference.
