UB inks MOU with Tagbilaran City government



A close partnership to enhance mutual learning, research and innovations between the University of Bohol and the City of Tagbilaran has been sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by UB Acting President Nuevas T. Montes and Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell ("Baba") Yap on June 25, 2014 at the office of the university president.


The three-year undertaking which will take effect on July 1, 2014 enables both parties to share human resources and facilitiesto help each other improve learning in Criminology and Criminal Justice Education and Local Governance and other areas which are both beneficial to the university and the city. These include collaboration in research and other innovation in the academe and in the local governance to update the curriculum and the delivery of basic services particularly in crime prevention and control; conduct of seminar/workshop related to the field of criminology and criminal justice like ill eeffects of illegal drugs and citizens policing geared towards involvement in crime prevention; and the conduct of lectures/seminars to all drivers of public utility vehicles operating within Tagbilaran City to improve the traffic condition in the locality. UB Criminology students through their Internship Training are again fielded as traffic enforcers to exposetheir knowledge and skills in the field.


As this developed, Dean Jesus C. Acullador of the College of Criminology noted that the partnership forged by the university and the city is a head start for more partnerships in the future between learning institutions and local government units in the province of Bohol. As former chief of police of Tagbilaran City , Dean Acullador is also concerned with strict law enforcement in the city to help protect our students and the community in general.


The MOU signing was witnessed by City Administrator Eddie Borja, Dr. Gina T. Lopena, UB Community Extension Service Officer, Dean Jesus C. Acullador and other faculty members and students. (L.A.Boncales)
